About the Book: The Taper Man

It is 1965, and the Cold War is cooler than ever. The Circus—the secret centre of British intelligence—holds one prize asset left in Moscow: a senior Red Army officer privy to deep Soviet secrets. But when a British agent is shot in Helsinki, George Smiley uncovers a counter-intelligence operation that puts Britain's star source in jeopardy.

The trail leads Smiley across the Atlantic to Los Angeles, where a Communist sleeper agent—a "Taper Man"—is poised to expose Britain's operative. To save him, Smiley must navigate an America riven with political tension while his spy in Leningrad risks everything in pursuit of a defecting Russian who holds the final piece of the puzzle.
